Designing for Avatar: The Thousand Folds

Relish studios had a big challenge when they promised Nickelodeon a branching narrative game for their beloved Avatar: The Last Airbender IP.

Because Relish had never before designed a branching narrative.

Using Celtx’s Game & VR tool, I adapted the existing story for Avatar: The Thousand Folds into a format which the in-engine scripting tool could recognize. I then wrote and designed various narrative branches based on dialogue choices and other gameplay systems to create an experience which spoke to the themes of the pre-established story. From there, I used the tool to represent the branches. This provided a detailed blueprint for both the art and dev teams to bring the story to life.
